Description:
This is a top quality pair of Victorian carved walnut armchairs, circa 1890, in the style of the Queen Anne period, having newly upholstered seats, in very good condition. The chairs feature inverted floral carved pediments, with a shaped back rail housing an exquisite carved pierced vase shaped central splat, with gadroon moulding to the base. The sweeping “shepherds crook” arms are secured by shaped vertical supports that connect to a horseshoe seat frame with a shaped apron. The chairs have drop in seats, which have been newly upholstered in top quality luxurious embroidered floral silk damask upholstery, in a fawn colour, with traditional hessian backing to the undersides. Elegantly shaped cabriole legs which feature scroll acanthus leaf carvings to the knees of the legs, terminate on pronounced ball and claw feet at the front whilst the back splayed legs terminate on pads feet. The chairs are heavy in weight and are structurally sound this is a further sign of quality.
The chair features a rich dark brown walnut colour. They have a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
