Here is a superb quality pair of antique French walnut Fauteuil armchairs (circa 1870), in excellent condition, having been newly upholstered.

Here is a superb quality pair of antique French walnut Fauteuil armchairs, in excellent condition, having been newly upholstered, circa 1870, from the 2nd French Empire period. The chairs are constructed of solid walnut and feature high-backs, straight fronts and an unusual “rope twist” leg design, above geometric block work and bobbin tipped toes, which are united by moulded “H” stretchers. There is a further decorative floral carved stretcher at the front of the chair below the seat. The armchairs feature good quality down swept reeded arms, which terminate in scroll ends incorporating carved acanthus leaves. The chairs have been newly upholstered in top quality hardwearing burgundy pink, gold and fawn tone structured raised chenille upholstery, displaying a comprehensive floral paisley pattern work, finished with brass studwork braiding. The undersides of the chairs have been recovered with traditional hessian material. The sprung seats are extremely comfortable to sit on they do not sag.
The chairs feature a dark rich brown walnut colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.

The undersides of the chairs have been recently recovered with traditional hessian material. The sprung seats are extremely comfortable to sit on they do not sag. There is no damage or breaks to the back or legs nor any loose movements to the arms. The frames and arms are in excellent condition. The chairs sit firm on the ground and do not wobble. These chairs are well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
