This is a good quality Pair of Late 19th / Early 20th Century Silver Plate Serving Dishes. The lidded dishes are oval with beaded rims and acanthus leaf handles. They can either be used as two lidded dishes or the handles can be removed and the lids turned upside down to make four open serving dishes.

The dishes were made for Manoah Rhodes & Sons of Bradford and date to between around 1890 and 1920. Manoah Rhodes founded his business in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1836. He was a retail jeweller and silversmith. After his death, the firm was renamed Manoah Rhodes & Sons in 1888. They were one of the most successful retail jewellers in the North of England selling antique jewellery, silverware and electroplate and remained in the Rhodes family for several generations up the 1950s.

Condition is good with just a couple of small dings in the bases plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. The handles have become a little loose after years of good service but remain functional. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each dish is 30.5cm / 12ins long, 23.5cm / 9.25ins across and 12cm / 4.7ins high with the handles in place. The pair together weigh in at 2.88kg / 101.8oz.

The undersides of the bases are stamped A1 for the best quality silver plate, M R & S in Gothic lettering for Manoah Rhodes & Sons and a letter W, which is probably a date letter for a specific year.
