A fine pair of oil paintings on canvas depicting a horse and a donkey both in stable settings with a dog. The paintings are painted to a very high level and are signed Wheeler. There was a whole family of Wheeler's who specialised in painting animal and sporting works, and this is certainly by one of them as labels on the reverse show that they were retailed by the Kensington Fine Art Association, and of course they are signed lower left. The works are in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned and minor holes repaired. The paintings are mounted in period gilt frames. The paintings are a fine pair that give a great period look. C.1900.
