Pair of Machine Age Throne Armchairs c.1925. %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Pair of large early 20th.c. high back throne armchairs c.1925. A fine example of the British reaction to Art Deco and the Modern Movement, the elegant modernistic design of unadorned geometric forms and the stepped detail recalls the shapes of some of the great British buildings of the early 20th century such as Giles Gilbert Scott’s Bankside Power Station and Edwin Lutyen’s Cenotaph. In solid oak with an upholstered backrest and loose seat pad both in their original burgundy leather. In good unrestored condition, very solid and sturdy. Some splits to the timber below the seat pads but no movement.

Dimensions width 29″, depth 18″, height 54″.
