Papier mâché antique furniture was very popular in the period 1840-60. During this period French eighteenth century furniture styles were fashionable in Britain and the cabriole legs and shaped back reflect this influence.

Constructed with wood and molded paper before being black lacquered and embellished with mother of pearl and gilding.

In good antique condition, evidence of previous use, and rubbing to gilding however these are a great example of decorative chairs dating to circa 1850.
