A fine pair of Italian oil paintings depicting Goddesses, in the original superb carved giltwood frames. The paintings show a pair of Goddesses and are worked after Roman frescoes discovered in Pompeii. The Goddesses represented are Flora and Diana. The works are painted on thick artist's paper and have been mounted on board. The pair have been professionally cleaned and there has been some minor repair at the edges. There is some rippling of the paintings but it is not distracting to the works. The paintings are both mounted in the original carved giltwood frames with oval slips. The pair of frames are in good overall condition with the original gilding but both have had one corner restored. The pair look fantastic together and give a great look of the country house. This sort of painting would have been purchased by the wealthy traveller in Italy visiting Pompeii, and the frames would have been purchased at the same time and the whole assembled on return.
