Pair of Georgian Welsh oak hall chairs
I have a number of very good Welsh seventeenth century / early eighteenth century chairs and a drop leaf table from the same period listed this week. Do check out my other listings.
These are a very good pair of period Welsh hall or side chairs. The chairs are made in oak and date to around 1800. The chairs are very similar to chairs illustrated in Richard Bebb's book on Welsh antique furniture. The chairs show the cabinet makers 'take' on the Chippendale fashion of the period. I particularly like the 'key escutcheon' detail in the centre of the back. You find motifs like these on Welsh lovespoons. Welsh love spoon motifs are often incorporated into Welsh antique furniture design.
The chairs have fielded panel seats and stand on square chamfered legs.
The chairs are in good period condition. They have had replacement blocks under the seat.
These are a very pretty pair of period hall chairs.
Each chair back is 32 inches high and the seat is 17.5 inches high and 18 inches wide.
