A fine and very interesting pair of small Georgian period oil painting portraits. The pair show Mason Chamberlin RA and his wife. Mason Chamberlin RA (1727-1787) was a highly regarded portrait painter and founder member of the Royal Academy who is chiefly remembered for his famous portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The paintings are a self portrait of Chamberlin and his wife has been painted to match. The pair are painted in oils on canvas laid down on panel and are mounted in the original gilt oval frames. The whole are in very good condition, the paintings have been professionally cleaned and the frames simple have the odd crack. C.1770.
