A pair of mahogany side chairs by Cowtan and Sons. These chairs are of exceptional quality including fine carving down the legs. Very wide seats covered in green leather. The chairs are identical but on closer examination of the wood it would appear that one of the chairs dates to circa 1795 with the other being a copy made circa 1880. The earlier chair is stamped.

Cowtan and Sons were an important interior decorating company famous for their wallpaper and whose customers included UK and European royalty. On a lesser scale they produced some top quality pieces of furniture which are now rare.
These chairs are offered for sale as a pair but would consider selling seperately. All items are checked by our restoration team and any work is sympathetically carried out. Therefore condition is excellent, commensurate with age and items are ready to go straight into the home for immediate use. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or request additional pictures.
