A superb pair of large Victorian 19th century oak open armchairs. This pair of massive English/Welsh 17th/18th century gothic wainscot throne style elbow chairs were especially commissioned for the city of Cardiff making them rare indeed. They would be fabulous as a superior pair of hall fireside library desk office or occasional chairs. Totally original and retaining their original leather upholstered seats with boldly carved everted arms and raised on cabriole legs carved on the knees with sabre shaped back legs and united by a crinoline shaped stretcher and concealed swivel castors. Measure 30”w x 56”h x 24”d. Excellent original condition. Circa 1890.
