Pair Japanese Woodblock Prints by Kunisada, 1853
This is a framed pair of original Japanese woodblock prints of Kabuki Actors by Utagawa Kunisada, dated 1853. The colourfully robed figures standing under branches of cherry blossom depict Actors Arashi Rikan III as Kikuchi Sadayuki (R) and Arashi Rikaku II as Toriyama Shûsaku (L) performing the play Shiranui Monogatari at the Kawarazaki Theatre. Each sheet bears a toshidama cartouche containing the signature of the artist 'Toyokuni ga' (Utagawa Kunisada).
Dimensions: Frame - Width 72.5 x Height 51.5 x Depth 1.7 cm
Each sheet is Height 35 x Width 24 cm visible below the double mount.
Weight 3.1 kg
Condition: The prints are in very good condition though they have been trimmed into a slightly trapezoidal shape. The prints were removed from their frames and photographed, and acid-free, cream coloured double mounts were professionally cut and the images reframed in their previous gilded moulding which is about 30 years old.
Delivery: Due to the size of the glazed area we would recommend hand-delivery by our preferred delivery driver. Please get in contact to discuss options and price. The picture can also be collected from the Tunbridge Wells area.
