Pair Framed Arts & Crafts Prints by Heywood Sumner
Fabulous pair of large framed prints by the celebrated English artist and craftsman George Heywood Maunoir Sumner (1853–1940) follower of William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement.
Original chromolithograph prints on paper titled Autumn and Winter. Featuring beautifully designed block print style illustrations of traditional rural activities typical of the seasons, harvesting corn and gathering firewood. Together with lines from John Keats’ well loved poem To Autumn and Shakespeare’s Sonnet 73. Signed HS in the lower left hand corner of each illustration. Published in 1893 by George Bell & Sons for The Fitzroy Picture Society which was established by Sumner in the early 1890’s to produce affordable art for use in schools and other public institutions. (Note the publisher details are behind the mount). Excellent condition presented behind glass in the original deep moulded wooden frames with pitch pine slips. Cleaned and ready to hang.
