This is a delightful pair of mid 19th century naïve oil paintings on canvas of coastal views in their original gilt wood frames. Though unsigned, the artist has successfully captured the drama in the scenes in the first image sailors navigate the choppy seas around Brighton's Chain Pier (destroyed by a storm in 1896) while in the second (possibly of Hastings) black storm clouds and lightening form the backdrop as fishermen pull their boats onto the shingle beach. The Prince Regent's Brighton Pavilion can be spotted in the centre background of the first image.

Condition: The paintings and their frames are in very good antique condition. The painting is finely crazed but there are no losses.
