Painted Pine Glazed Housekeeper’s Cupboard c.1820
Of beautiful proportions and originality, the two-part black painted pine carcass with the original finish now distressed and craquelured commensurate with age, the whole with a pair of astragal glazed doors bearing the original glass, opening to reveal a shelved pea green interior, under a ripple moulded cornice, to paneled fielded sides, the paneled base opening to reveal a further shelf, the whole standing on bun feet, and surviving in largely original condition from early nineteenth century England.
The cupboard shows some rather attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, with a superb crusty surface which is beautifully untouched, with the whole in superbly original order with the carcass structurally sound. The piece has undergone some structural work to ensure it is in fit and useable order with the feet being later but entirely in keeping. The knobs are all original and the cupboard doors have their original working lock and a key is provided. There are three panes of the original glass with small hairline cracks as per photographs.
This attractive example has typical Cornish traits, with black being quite popular in this period. The fielded paneled sides are unusual however and signal a much better quality period painted piece than what one would normally expect.
A stunning and most highly sought after piece of original period painted antique furniture in desirable original condition.
