There are highly decorative handles each side and a beautiful naturalistic handle to the domed lid. The lid can be removed , there are two pins which fit into the receivers at the back of the dish.
There is a small hinged cap at the side allowing hot water to be poured into a chamber to keep the contents warm and a the hinged lid can be held at an angle with the help of the chain and hook being attached to the handle. When placed near an open fire the reflection of the flames on the inside of the lid would further aid in keep the food hot or melting cheese like a Georgian cheese warmer / toaster.
