A fine and decorative oil on canvas depicting farmers bringing in the wheat with horses. The painting has a great impressionist style to it with the use of thick impasto oils. The quality of the artist is most evident in the horses which are superb. The work is in good condition with some repair to flaking at the edges and an old small repair. The work is signed A. Haymond but I have been unable to identify the artist, it is possible he is one of those lost in the great war. There is an inscription on the reverse that states the picture was painted near Lancaster. The painting is in the original Arts and Crafts design gilt and painted frame which is in great untouched condition. There is a gallery label on the reverse which indicates that the piece was either exhibited or part of a collection. The whole has a great period look and is a strong arresting image. It is ready to hang. C.1900.
