This is a charming oil painting by the French Resistance fighter, Paula Buchilot. She was the cousin of Irene Chiot and was part of the movement that in October 1943 blew up seven German wagons of explosive bombs. The painting was part of an exhibition, see provenance on the back of the painting and discovered at a brocante near Paris a few years ago where it had resided in an old farmhouse, possibly passed down through the Buchilot/Chiot family. The painting is in totally original condition would be of particular interest to somebody who has studied the French Resistance movement and would appreciate the history of the artist. Paula Buchilot exhibited in a prestigious exhibition at the 'Societe des Amis des arts de l'Yonne' founded in 1858. Having researched this artist, I believe she would have been in the 1931 exhibition. The painting was photographed in natural daylight without any enhancement and would benefit from professional cleaning.
