A fabulous novelty Victorian letter / desk clip made to accommodate "Unanswered" Letters one side and "Answered" letters the other. Of course it can be used to keep all manner of papers, receipts, business cards in place, not simply letters.

The central handle is in the from of a stirrup and underneath is a hinged box for matches, sealing wax and seal, the textured surface to the lid would have acted as the match strike.

The hinged horseshoes are sprung to keep paper secure.

Excellent condition measuring 9 3/4" x 4 1/4" x 4 1/2" tall. Victorian in era, c.1880
