Mid 19th.c. Welsh Bardic Theme Armchair c.1860
Always a pleasure to have items of specific Welsh interest in stock, so we are delighted to present this truly exceptional mid 19th.c. Welsh Bardic theme armchair c.1860.
Extraordinarily shapely carved and pierced mahogany frame with open arms and original brass castors. Retaining the original woolwork tapestry covers to the backrest and seat. Depicting a Welsh bard in laurel wreath and flowing robes playing a small Celtic harp, his eyes raised to heaven. Set within a border of scrolling acanthus leaves topped with the three feathers and the Ich Dien motto of the Prince of Wales. With another harp and repeats of the three feathers to the seat cover. With a small hole and some wear to the seat cover, otherwise excellent condition, the frame has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
