Mid 17thC French Antique Oil Portrait Painting
Follower of Charles Beaubrun (1604-1692) - A Mid 17th Century French School Antique Oil on Canvas Portrait of a Young Aristocratic Gentleman.
A very fine quality Mid-17th century French School portrait of a young aristocrat, depicted seated at half length in fashionable attire, painted within a feigned oval.
Painted with exceptional quality with very fine detailing especially to the lace, velvet and folds of the clothing.
The unknown sitter, undoubtedly a son of a senior French aristocrat, carries the typical powdered face tones of the 17th century court.
The work is close to the hand of the distinguished French portrait painter, Charles Beaubrun (1604-1692), who was most active in Paris during the decades of 1630-1670. A favourite painter in the courts of King Louis XIII and King Louis XIV, he painted many portraits of reigning Queens and the nobility.
An exceptional work of superior quality and rarity.
Condition - The painting is oil on canvas and is genuinely very presentable. The painting has been relined and restored, with some areas showing more obvious signs of overpainting and retouching. The frame is a more recent example and in presentable condition.
Dimensions 41 /12" x 34" including frame
