Mid-Century Silver Plate Drinks Tray, c.1950s/60s
This is an attractive Mid-Century Silver Plate Galleried Drinks Tray. The flat based tray is oval with a chased acanthus leaf design on the base. The pierced gallery has a beaded bottom rim and a gadrooned top rim and the handles are also gadrooned.
The drinks tray was made Sheffield by Viner's Ltd as part of their Alpha Plate range and dates to around the 1950s / 60s. Viner's was founded around 1900 by Adolphe Viener, who later Anglicized his family surname to Viner. Starting out as electroplaters, the firm moved into silverware in the early 1920s. They remained extremely successful up until the 1970s but later had difficulties and ceased trading in the 1980s. The Viner's brand name is now owned by Oneida.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced gallery, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tray measures 36.8cm / 14.5ins from handle to handle, 19.9cm / 7.8ins across and stands 2.6cm / 1in high. It weighs 586g / 20.7oz.
The underside of the tray is stamped with the crown Alpha Plate logo, Viners of Sheffield, England and Chased.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Evri (Hermes) Tracked & Signed Courier.
