We are pleased to offer for sale this absolutely stunning oil painting on canvas by the English artist Michael W. Huggins, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and with his monogram MWH in the lower right. The painting depicts a bunch of white carnations in almost three dimensional detail, due to the artist's use of impast in the flower heads. This is a technique frequently used by the artist when painting flower, particularly carnations.

Michael W. Huggins was born, and we have confirmed this, in 1927, in Meriden Warwickshire. There is a biography online, which we have not been able to verify, but in the absence of any other information, we will give it below.

'Michael W. Huggins was born in 1927 at Holly Lodge, Nr. Kenilworth, England. He studied at Eton and Sandhurst Military College and later served with the Grenadier Guards. He painted and studied in Zurich, Paris and La Jolla in California. He returned to England before relocating to Majorca, Spain.

Among the collectors of his works are His Majesty King Simeon of Bulgaria, Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, the Dutchess of Winsdor, Ivan Ivanovitch (Bristish Consul to Monaco), Whitney Straight (Chairman of Rolls Royce), Arthur Murray, and many others.'

Micharl Huggins paints principally still life oils, of shells, fruit, books etc., sometimes in a rather flat, simplistic style on gold leaf, apart from his flower oils, which are often of carnations and use impasto.

The painting has been newly framed in a 1 5/8 inch black frame to suit. It will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
