Ingenious early 19th.c. oak metamorphic library steps and side chair c.1800. Shaped top rail with a pierced hand grip over two wavey back stretchers between curving rear stiles. Shaped board seat hinged toward the front edge allowing the backrest to fold over forwards to become a set of library steps with four treads (top tread height 31″). Shaped detail below each step. Some repairs to the seat and later iron brackets to strengthen legs below the first step. Excellent colour, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
