Max Parsons A.R.C.A. Marine Oil Painting Clipper
We are pleased to offer for sale this very well executed marine oil painting of a tea clipper by the British artist Max Parsons A.R.C.A., who has signed the painting to the lower right hand corner and signed and dated it verso 1972. The painting depicts the clipper in full sail on a slightly choppy sea.
We have given the dates of this artist as 1915-1998, because those are what we have found online, but we cannot corroborate them. On looking up his birth date, we can find no Max Parsons with those dates, although it may be a second name that he preferred to use. Not knowing the first name, makes it impossible to look up biographical detail other than what is online. We have found a small biography that states that he attended Hull School of Art, followed by the Royal College Schools, after which he specialised in marine paintings. That he specialised in marines is definitely accurate.
The painting has been newly mounted in a 3 1/4 inch soft silver frame, which suits its colouring very well. It will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 19 3/8 x 15 1/8 inches - 49.25cm x 38.5cm
Frame size: 25 7/8 x 21 1/2 inches - 65.75cm x 54.6cm
Mediums: Oils on board
Condition: Very good. The surface is clean, there is no craquelure or paint loss and the frame is new.
