Late Victorian Silver Plated Salver, Mappin & Webb
This is a top quality late Victorian Silver Plated Salver by Mappin & Webb, which dates to c.1890-1900. Mappin & Webb are probably the most famous name in British silver and silver plate and have a worldwide reputation for quality. This item is from their Prince's Plate range, which was their highest quality silver plate.
The salver is an eight sided pie crust design with a gadrooned rim all the way round. It stands on a flat base. It could be either a large card tray or a small drinks tray. The salver functions perfectly as a tray of any kind.
There is no plate loss on the salver but there a couple of dings on the flat tray surface and some scuff marks to the underside as you would expect after this period of time and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salver is 25cm / 9.75" in diameter and weighs 500g / 17.6oz.
The marks on the underside are very clear to read. They have the "Triple Deposit" and three key logo at the top, Mappin & Webb's Prince's Plate London & Sheffield below that and then the gothic date letter "Y" which gives a manufacturing date of around 1890 to 1900. There is then a product number of W13370.
