Maker's mark for Henry Matthews, Vittoria Street, Birmingham.
There are two faint inscriptions, in the top right hand corner M.F., and in the bottom left hand corner L.M.. There is also the very faint remains of initials in the bottom right hand corner but it is too rubbed to read.
The armorial emblem is in very good condition with "SPEM FORTUNA ALIT" in the banner which translates into Fortune Nourishes Hope. ( a popular family motto).
Approximate dimensions: 43mm x 41mm, weight 17.1g.
The vesta is in very good condition.
