Late 19th c. easy chair after George Jack antique armchair easy chair %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Very elegant mahogany low seated easy chair with open arms dating to c. 1890. This chair is a simpler version of the famous "Saville" chair attributed to the antique furniture designer George Washington Jack for Morris & Co. A photo of this simpler model is found in the early 1900's illustrated furniture catalogue by Christopher Pratt & Sons of Bradford, who were cabinet makers of very high quality furniture and were also agents for Liberty & Co (see our Facebook or Instagram pages for further details). The crested padded back of the chair has shapely open arms with scrolled over ends. These are supported by turned arm rests that extend downwards to an inset rectangular block continuing to the turned front legs, which end in the original castors. The chair is entirely traditionally upholstered with the back retaining the original stitched horsehair upholstery that has been restored by The Sitting Place while the sprung seat is newly traditionally reupholstered from the frame. The chair is then finished in stunning Sunflower velvet fabric by Morris & Co (saffron-vellum colourway). This is a very collectable chair that would make a great addition to a William Morris interior décor. Where applicable, our upholstered items of stock are fully newly traditionally re-upholstered in-house using only traditional materials and no foam so as to be in-keeping with the age of the piece as an antique.
