Large Welsh Oak Tack Cupboard c.1780
Fabulous large George III Welsh oak tack or cloak cupboard c.1780. Two door cupboard top, with a fixed centre panel, fitted inside with 18 wooden pegs for hanging coats etc. Separate base with three blind panels over three drawers. The top of the base is open allowing for extra hanging height inside. Very heavily constructed in solid oak throughout with traditional pegged joints. Good wide cornice over three arch top raised and fielded panels to the top, with square panels below repeated on the base, all within thumb moulded surrounds. Drawer fronts also raised and fielded to match and with pierced Georgian pattern brass swan neck handles. Ogee waist moulding and bracket feet front and rear. Oak panelled sides to both sections. Original oak back boards, floor and drawer linings. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Could be easily fitted with a hanging rail if preferred or shelves to make a large kitchen or housekeeper’s cupboard.
