Large Walnut Overmantle By Charles Nosotti


A high quality large Overmantle Mirror in figured Walnut, having a moulded surround with gilt ormolu flower mounts and twisted bead, retaining the original and fabulous mercury plate glass of which gives a clear reflection. Retaining the original back boards and Charles Nosotti plaque. Superb colour and condition throughout. English, Circa 1860.
Charles Nosotti, by Royal appointment to Queen Victorian, 398 and 399 Oxford Street, London, originally came from Milan and was primarily a carver and gilder, and his firm known as a looking glass manufactory. Records show he had settled in Westminster as early as 1831. He produced a Victorian marquetry side cabinet in conjunction with Howard and Sons for J.D. Allcrofts house at Lancaster Gate. He also produced a cabinet for the Countess Waldegrave for Strawberry Hill, exhibited at the 1862 London Exhibition
