Large Silver Plate Galleried Tray, c.1960s / 70s
This is an attractive large Mid-Century Silver Plated Galleried Tray. The tray is oval in shape and stands on four bun feet. The upper side of the base has intricate chased decoration and the rim is pierced in an arched design below a gadrooned top.
The tray was made in Birmingham by Cavalier Tableware and dates to around the 1960s / 1970s. Founded in Birmingham in 1959, Cavalier Tableware were primarily producers of silver plate domestic and tableware operating from premises in Spencer Street at the heart of Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They were initially very successful but began to struggle against the competition from cheaper foreign imports in the 1970s and despite introducing some Sterling Silver products in 1976 they ceased trading around about 1980.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced gallery, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
This is a large size tray measuring 42cm / 16.5ins by 31.3cm / 12.3ins and standing 4.6cm / 1.8ins high. It weighs in at 1,072g / 37.8oz.
The underside of the tray is stamped Silver Plated. Cavalier. Made In England.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Evri (Hermes) Courier service.
