a very heavy russian carved rhodonite inkwell bearing a silver plaque engraved kara sea expedition 1929 & a russian name underneath , the sea is spelt see, the kara sea expedition of 1929 was carried out by an ice breaker called the sedov the expedition went to the october revolution island as a base , this inkwell is a very similiar shape to the island as can be seen from an aerial view, this may explain the shape , this piece of rhodonite is the largest piece II have seen & very heavy ,the colour of the stone is fairly uniformed & has no strata /cracks in it ,the stone really has been well chosen for this piece ,the overall height including the lid is 10.5 cm, length 16cm, width varies approx 11 cm wide ,some blue ink stain inside the well,
