Impressively large 20th.c. English oil on canvas portrait of an unidentified school head, university chancellor or similar c.1935. Measuring 58″ x 38″. Sensitively painted, with a faint smile on the lips of the sitter, it is unsigned but believed to be by the portrait artist Alice Mary Burton (1893-1968). Presented on the original stretcher, behind glass, the frame is original and particularly good with unusual etched and modelled plaster detail.
