Large late 19th.c gilt overmantle mirror c.1880. Standing very nearly six feet tall and over four feet wide. 41″ x 62″ arch top mirror plate within a moulded and gilded gesso frame. Topped with a scallop shell and flower frieze moulded in high relief infront of a gadroon carved top edge and flanked with further flowers and acanthus leaves at the top corners. Lovely raised deatil to the inner edge featuring a twisting ribbon alternating with acanthus leaves plus a beeded edge within that. Futher acanthus deatil to the bottom corners of the frame. Retaining the original gilding rubbed and worn in places to reveal the red ground below. Some damage to the frieze at the top of the mirror though this is stable and complete with no missing decoration. Generally very good condition with a clean mirror plate.
