Large George III - Regency Convex Mirror
A very rare and impressive English convex mirror circa 1810.
A finely carved double eagle headed lyre surmounting a plinth. The lyre,an attribute of poetry, originally being a gift from Mercury to Apollo with the caduceus given in exchange.
The pineapple in the apron is a symbol of welcome associated with hospitality.(G.Child, World Mirrors)
This frame has been fully restored using the dry stripping technique. What you now see is the original gilding.
The glass is certainly 19th century at least, if not the original, and is actually quite clear. It may well have been re-silvered.
Sadly, my photography does not do it justice and really must be seen to be appreciated.
If this item is not entirely suitable, please do not hesitate to contact us as we have a large store of un-restored items which can be started on if necessary.
All our mirror frames are fully restored using gold leaf and traditional materials.
