Large Antique Steamer Trunk, Scottish, Canvas
This is a large antique steamer trunk. A Scottish, canvas and beech bound shipping chest, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.
Superb proportion and delightful fitted interior to this large trunk
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Weathered green canvas substantially bound in cast iron and beech stocks
Maker's label to lid interior for A. Boswell of Edinburgh, established in 1790
Lid opens upon a pair of strap rests, with wide access to the interior
Appointed with a pair of large removable linen trays, dressed with leather handles
Generously sized, clean interior with the trays removed offers a height of 50cm (19.75'')
With trays installed upon corner brackets, the interior retains a height of 28cm (11'')
Handwritten detail to the canvas with the initials HR HP and No11
Central retaining clasp with bound lock escutcheon — untested, key absent
Pair of stout clasps to either side hold the lid closed securely, opening with a firm action
Excellent leather handles to ends, set within broad iron straps
This is a generously sized antique steamer trunk, graced with appealing patination and a pleasingly clean interior.
