Large antique silver Elgin pocket watch, 1900
Large antique silver Elgin pocket watch, 1900.
The watch has a 17-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. This is a good quality movement with a Moseley patent regulator, Breguet hairspring and screw set jewels. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 8262195 which dates it back to 1900.
The watch measures 60mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop, larger than a standard 50mm pocket watch. The case is silver and was made for Elgin by the Crescent Watch Case Company. The inside of the case back is signed with their name, together with the 925/1000 silver mark so the same purity as sterling silver.
The case is in good condition with just the odd small mark, nothing too serious at all.
The watch has a thick glass lens which has light marking but again, very acceptable.
The signed dial has some chips around the edge but mostly covered by the bezel. Blued steel hands.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
