A wonderful quality pair of Victorian Black Forest expanding bookends, adjustable to accommodate a varying number of books. The slide is beautifully carved with Edelweiss and each end superbly hand-carved with a pair of Mountain Goats standing on rocks with a naturalistic background.

The footprint while closed measures 18" x 7 1/4" with an opening of 14" this opening expands to 23" and while fully opened has a footprint measuring 27" long. The panels each end stand 7 1/2" tall. Dating to the Victorian era, around 1890, it remains in excellent condition.
