Large 12" Glass Dome & Ebonised Wooden Base
This is an antique bell bottom display dome and wooden base dating from around the beginning of the 1900's. The limitations of the Victorian glass making methods are perfectly demonstrated by the various bubbles and other small imperfections in the glass. This originality makes a piece like this desirable and sought after. The original turned wooden base is ebonised and features three rounded wooden feet of a later date.
In their day they were mainly used for taxidermy presentations, but the domes have become very popular in modern times for displaying treasures and trinkets large and small. Many antique glass domes can be rather limited in use due to their tall and slender shape. What attracted us to this particular example was the practical size of it and the display room inside the glass dome. The diameter of the wooden base will give almost 23cm of display space. Objects with a centre height of 28cm (approx.) will fit inside the glass dome, but do take into consideration the curvature at the top of the dome (8-9cm approx.). All this space will make this beautiful antique glass dome ideal for displaying a wide range of objects new or old.

Condition This antique is in lovely condition, and the glass dome is bright and clean. The surface of the wooden base shows off its age with its patina now protected with a clear wax, lightly applied. Ready to be added to all types of homes, interiors and/or decors.
