Laraine Campbell 1941-2014 W/colour Figure Celia
We are pleased to offer this large and very attractive watercolour figure study by the South African artist Laraine Campbell, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. Athough principally watercolour, the painting is highlighted in pen and ink and pastels. The artist has entitled the painting verso 'Celia in a kimono'. The painting depicts an attractive young woman looking down, with her hair pulled inro a knot on the back of her head, decorated with flowers, reflected in a mirror. She is seated on a stool and is wearing a yellow kimono with a floral obi (wide sash).
This is one of a pair of paintings by this artist that we are listing.
Laraine Campbell was a South African artist who was born in 1941 and died in 2014. There have been some auction results for her work both in mixed media and oils, and there are some examples on the internet. Other than this, unfortunately, we have no further biographical information about her.
The painting has been newly glazed with clearview due to the size and newly framed in a 2 1/4 inch black lacquered wooden frame, which suits it very well. It has not been mounted due to the large size.
