Oil on artists board depicting a scene of sheep on the heath by William Herbert Allen. The oil paint is worked thick and loose and depicts a great impression of a summer day. The painting is in good condition and is mounted in a period gilt frame. William Herbert Allen 1863-1943 is a very well known late Victorian artist, he was taught at the Royal College and worked as a teacher as well as a professional artist, he exhibited widely and prolifically including 15 works at the Royal Academy and 310 at the Royal Society for British Artists. The painting is overall in good condition with a few marks of age on the frame and is signed by the artist on the bottom left. C.1900.
