Lalique Leda and the swan
In classical Greek mythology, Leda was daughter of the Aetolian king Thestius, and wife of king Tyndareus of Sparta.
The legend says that Leda was seduced and then raped by Zeus who took on the form of a swan. On the same day she also lay with her huband king Tyndareus.
Leda produced four children - Helen (later Helen of Troy) and Polydeuces by Zeus, and Castor and Clytemnestra by her husband.
This Lalique design dates to the post-war period of Lalique, but we have not been able to definitively pin down the designer. Some references attribute it to Marc Lalique (Rene Lalique's son) in 1949, others to Marie-Claude Lalique (Marc's daughter/Rene's granddaughter) in 1960. This is a modern rendition of the model.
The figurine measures approximately 11.5 cm (4.5") tall. She kneels on a 5.2 cm (2.1") diameter base.
The base is engraved "Lalique ® France" and carries its original Lalique label.
The figurine is in excellent condition. There are no chips cracks or repairs, and only minimal wear to the base.
There is no box.
Selling price includes free UK postage. For other countries, please contact us for a quote.
