Lalique Artemis (Diana) and the Fawn
In classical mythology, Artemis (in Greek mythology) or Diana (in Roman mythology) is the goddess of hunting, the wilderness, wild animals and childbirth. She is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo.
Artemis is often depicted carrying a bow and arrows, or, as in this interpretation, accompanied by a fawn, deer being sacred to her.
This Lalique design dates to the post-war period of Lalique, but we have not been able to definitively pin down the designer. Some references attribute it to Marc Lalique (Rene Lalique's son), others to Marie-Claude Lalique (Marc's daughter/Rene's granddaughter). This is a modern rendition of the model.
The figurine measures approximately 11.5 cm (4.5") tall. She kneels on a 5 cm (2") diameter base.
"Lalique R France" is engraved to the side of the base, which also carries the original Lalique label.
The figurine is in excellent condition. There are no chips cracks or repairs, and only minimal wear to the base.
There is no box.
Selling price includes free UK postage. For other countries, please contact us for a quote.
