Superb mid 20th.c. portrait of a lady in Spanish dress by the French female artist Léonie Humbert-Vignol (1879-1960). La Manola refers to a working class Madrid woman of flamboyant dress and character. Three quarter length portrait of a confident looking woman in Spanish dress with bold make-up, a flower in her hair, large gold earrings and bangles. Posed with one hand resting on a tambourine, the other holding a cigarette. Clearly signed in the top left corner of the canvas (typical for this artist) and dated 1948. Inscribed on the rear. Some minor wear and a couple of tiny holes in the canvas. Presented as found, unframed on a simple wooden stretcher.
