The engraving measures 4.5cms by 6cms and the frame measures 18.5cms by 25cms.
The engraving is signed and dated 1926.

James Bateman RA was an English painter and engraver specialising in agricultural topics, rural subjects and pastoral landscapes.
Born in Kendal, the son of a blacksmith. He served during both world wars and concentrated on art after a serious spinal injury caused by gunshot during the first World War.
He studied sculpture at the Leeds College of Art and won a scholarship to the Royal College Of Art, and studied at the Slade School of Art. He went on to teach art at the Cheltenham Art College and later at the Hammersmith School of Art and Goldsmiths College. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1922 onwards and became a full member in 1942.
Works by Bateman are held by the Tate, the Laing Art Gallery and the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum.
