Jack Russell MBE Int.Cricketer Oil Snow Scene
International Cricketer Jack Russell MBE has been a professional artist for nearly 30 years and has signed this lovely snow scene of a large field on a very sunny day, with two well-rugged horses, in the lower left hand corner. According to the back of the canvas, the painting is signed by him, dated 2006 and entitled Good Friends, Ludington (Jim & Grumpy). The artist has captured the almost blinding effect of sunshine on fresh snow brilliantly in this painting.
On his website, a giclee print of this painting is available for £250 unframed, and underneath, the artist has written the following quote:
'Over the years, whenever it snowed, I've always dropped everything and rushed out and painted snowscapes. The colours are so challenging. I didn't have to go too far to find this pair of horses, there were in the field I could see from my studio window.'
Robert Charles 'Jack' Russell was born on 15th August, 1963 in Gloucestershire. He played cricket for Gloucestershire from 1981-2004 and for England from 1987-1998 (54 Tests). He turned to painting in frustration from having to hang around when rain stopped play, so went out and brought some pencils and a sketch pad. He retired from cricket in 2004 and was awarded an MBE for Services to Cricket in 1996.
He paints landscapes, wildlife, military, portraits and sport, (particularly cricket) and has paintings hanging all over the world, from the Tower of London to the Bradman Museum in Australia. He has painted portraits of many famous people including HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Duke of Kent, a group of 10 Field Marshals of the British Army, Sir Norman Wisdom, Erick Sukes, John Alderton, Eric Clapton, Sir Bobby Charlton, Dickie Bird and Phil Taylor. Obviously, his subject include many cricketing paintings. He personally signs, dates and entitles all his paintings on the back, as shown here, as well as signing the front.
He has his own gallery in the High Street of Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire in a former Inn dating to 1560 and his own website, where many examples of his paintings may be viewed.
The painting has been newly framed in a 3 1/2" silver gilt frame, that complements it very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang on your wall.
