We are offering for sale this large oil on canvas by the artist J. Morris, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a rocky coastal view, with the sea forming eddies between the rocks on the beach below the cliffs, where some seagulls are swooping. The sky is streaked pink and there are two sailing vessels far out to sea. We would estimate the age of the painting as between 1890-1920.

Much as we would like to offer biographical information on this artist, there are many artists with the name J. Morris, many of whom are not listed in our reference books, and the auction sites seem to have mixed them all up and very few of the signatures are visibile. We would, therefore, prefer not to give incorrect information. If anyone recognises the signature and has any details about the artist, we would be most grateful if they could contact us.

The painting has been newly framed in a 3" ornate gilt swept frame and is ready to hang.
