Irish George II Walnut Library Chair c.1750
A fine and rare mid-18th century walnut framed elbow chair of Irish origin and made in circa 1750
The broad well shaped back with gentle rake and scrolling acanthus carved decorated top rail over open swept arms with lions mask terminals raised on slender carved supports. The deep and wide seat of good proportion. All set on acanthus carved cabriole legs with ball and claw feet.
The chair has been newly and professionally upholstered in a top quality silk and linen mix fabric made by the Gainsborough silk weaving company to an original 18th century design in shades of gold. The back and seat upholstery finished with original antique brass nails.
The chair from a private collection and with some Scottish provenance.
Extremely comfortable and robust, suitable for use, a very good and handsome chair.
Dimensions are:
30 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 38.5 inches high.
Floor to seat is 19 inches.
