Indus Valley Bronze-age Pottery Chalice
A terracotta chalice, or offering cup, decorated with bands of black and umber separated by areas of cross hatch design. The inside of the bowl is undecorated.
Circa 2500 to 1800 BC: Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro civilization.
Diameter at rim 14.5 cms (5.7 ins).
Height 14.2 cms (5.6 ins).
Condition: A few minor chips and scrapes but otherwise complete and intact the decoration a little worn in places earthy accretions remaining.
NB. Unlike many of the Indus Valley pottery items usually offered for sale, the painting is original and not overpainted.
Ex private collection, purchased on the UK arts market 2005-2008 All our items are supplied with an illustrated certificate of authenticity (COA) which will act as as a guarantee that all items are authentic and dated to the period stated.
