In the Cairngorms by Edward Train

1 of 3
oil on canvas, signed 28"x25"
Edward Train (fl. 1850 - 1880) - Painted landscapes, portraits and figures in oil. Born in Gateshead. He left Tyneside at an early age to take up an apprenticeship under the London engraver, Edward Scriven. An expedition to the Hebrides and the Shetlands in 1831 gave Train his taste for the Scottish highland scenery. This became his main preoccupation as a painter. By the early 1830s he was exhibiting his highland scenes at Newcastle and Edinburgh where his work became very popular. He also exhibited his work at Carlisle Athenaeum in 1850. Several works are in Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Represented also in Darlington AG and Shipley AG, Gateshead.
